High Noon

Welcome to Paradiso. This ain't no Whitefall or Ariel, but it can be home. We have plenty of jobs in the silver mines but be careful, medical supplies are few and far between. Like any out lying town, you can always wet y'all whistles at the saloon.

This little piece of bar trash will host many brawls and scrums at the upcoming Legends of the Old West demo games at Adepticon. Still working on the bar mirror private contractor, they were not highly recommended...

This was custom built for a Wyrd Hobby Services client and features a unique feature. The Paradiso playset can either be a 14x18 saloon, or it can be quartered and put into the corners of your set up for a crossroads showdown! That is more darn tooting fun than a salt lick in a pig pen.

All these tumble weeds and saloon songs have disrupted my calm and got me thinking bout the gunslingers of legend. I would say the top 3 undisputed are as follows.

2. Malcolm Reynolds

3. Doc Brown

Knights of Rivendell

Adepticon is looming and there are a million things on my to do list but start is starting to materialize. I almost got aboard the excuse train and took it all the way to procrastination station. Thankfully stronger will prevailed and I am super excited how these knights of Rivendell came out and to have them done.

I kept with my original Elf paint scheme of "300" red. I have a large infantry contingent that began this spartan crimson concept a couple years ago.

I do not know how the future rules might change this army list, but as it stands it has Elrond, Lindir, and captains as options with cavalry as troop types.

The 600 point version clocks in at a low 17 models, so like always, I go into my games with a giant handicap. They are all bow armed per the army special rules so depending on who I am playing or what mood I am in I can always play the dink and dodge game if I really have to. Most times I will probably just be charging in and hoping natures wrath goes off.

Call me crazy but now that our local Bilbo's Birthday Bash has embraced 750 point games I will most likely be bringing my previous 8 converted knights to have an astonishing 25 model army! At least it will look cool....

The Watcher in the Water

I will leave you with more shiny pictures than text, up will be the Knights of Elrond. 

There is never enough time to build and paint all those monsters you have lying around. But here is another one off the list. Hopefully those tentacles cause some problems for opponents armies...

 Included in the games point cost is the Watcher's kitty pool, he has to carry it around the battlefield with him, provides +2 defense.

Games workshop Big Meal Deal

The planets align and so do Games workshop's prices in all they're game systems. The past couple years the now Hobbit game system, previously Lord of the Rings Strategy battle game, has been climbing the price ladder up to the top.

The unconventional sees the Knights of Rivendell box set as $50.00 for 6 models. With the big meal deal though you get a quick upgrade. The Hobbit sets have been upping the ante on extra bits and sprues. You have the option to either build 6 complete knights with helmets or make 2 of them no hat captains. They also give you 2 casualty models for fun.

So without buying a $40.00 finecast Elrond model, you already have one plastic Elrond.

If you have 2 extra horses lying around and little time, you can build 2 more knights as seen here.

So total value, 7 knights and 1 hero for $50.00. Market value close to 100.Throw in some minas tirith conversions and we have got a pile of arrow fodder.

Watcher of The Dead

February tenth is approaching fast and that means the walking dead is back!  Which means we will all be losing an extra hour of sleep/hobby time each week.

This guy will hopefully be keeping a watchful eye on things though.

 I was not really digging the Gamesworkshop Watcher in the water model so I decided to build my own. The rules for this guy basically let him deep strike for deployment. So while the movie has it hanging out in a pond and it is clearly kraken/squid like, some imagination needs to be taken as to how it can move or tunnel around.

 The crab like structure GW gave it a lot of weird insect like looks so my goal was to just keep the back end of it submerged and let people imagine what it looks like

First time actually sculpting from scratch but it saved a bundle, has a better look, and hopefully can impress.

Wyrd Biðful Aræd

Fate is inexorable! I want to give a shout out to my new hobby commission blog, Wyrd Hobby Services.  It is new territory for me, but I look forward to the challenge.

Resolution Riddles

Well we are seven days into the New Year and I have already half broke a resolution. Remember that time we all said we would not buy more models until we painted and finished some of the stuff we already had?

Yeah, that one is in the garbage.

Finally saw the Hobbit and it brought back how much I enjoyed High Elves and hated played against them. I totally planned ahead for this and am bringing back the pain and gain of Spartan Elf cavalry with they're new and improved rules.

Unfortunately I did not model lances on them... so something will have to be figured out for that...

Otherwise I am looking to add a bunch more with lances but based on the same conversion, elf infantry with rohan riders. Potentially armies revolve around an all mounted 18 model force with a pimped out Elrond; or a 12 cavalry contingent led by a captain and then backed up by a high elf foot warband.

The options go back and forth between army theme and a little more game versatility.

So with my already failed resolution, I hesitantly resolve to

1. Paint at least 10 models a month or
2. Complete 1 larger project (terrain, display board etc) a month.
